Atlantic White Shark Conservancy Donates 12-Foot Fiberglass Shark to Monomoy Regional High School
Chatham, MA – The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy (AWSC) is excited to announce the donation of a 12-foot fiberglass shark sculpture to Monomoy Regional High School. This donation aligns with the school’s shark-themed mascot and athletic teams, the Monomoy Sharks, and aims to inspire students, staff, and the local community while raising awareness about shark conservation.
The striking shark, which was previously displayed at the AWSC’s Shark Center Provincetown, will be moved to Monomoy High School on April 2. It serves as a symbol of the Conservancy’s commitment to educating the public about the critical role sharks play in marine ecosystems and the connection between the community and the Atlantic white sharks off Cape Cod.
“We are thrilled to donate this incredible shark sculpture to Monomoy High School,” said Marianne Walsh, Chief Operating Officer of the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy. “Not only does it tie into the school’s shark mascot and athletic teams, but it also provides an opportunity to engage students and the local community in discussions about shark conservation and ocean stewardship.”
Monomoy High School will display the fiberglass shark at the school’s community entrance near the gymnasium and cafeteria, where it will serve as both an educational tool and a point of pride for students and faculty.
“We are grateful to the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy for this generous donation,” said Rick Travers, Facilities Director for Monomoy Regional School District. “This shark will be a lasting symbol for our school and an excellent way to engage students in marine life conservation.”
The installation of the shark at Monomoy High School strengthens the ongoing partnership between the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy and the local community, working together to inspire future generations to protect and conserve one of the ocean's most fascinating, yet misunderstood, creatures.
