Atlantic White Shark Conservancy Launches New Gills Club App

The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy (AWSC) is pleased to announce the release of a new Gills Club app.

The Gills Club is the Conservancy’s STEM-based education initiative dedicated to connecting girls with female scientists from around the world, sharing knowledge, and inspiring shark and ocean conservation.

The new app, which can be down-loaded for free on the Apple Store and Google Play, features:

  • The Gills Club science team

  • Information about various shark species

  • Access to on-going shark research

  • Shark science activities

  • Engaging projects

“This app has been in development for about a year,” said AWSC CEO and Gills Club co-founder Cynthia Wigren. “Our motto is ‘Smart About Sharks’ and this app is designed to provide tools for youth to educate their peers about sharks and help jump-start kids' interest in science, technology, engineering, and math subjects.”

The Gills Club launched in 2014. Over one hundred female shark researchers from around the world are represented on the science team, and active Gills Club members stay connect through the group's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/GillsClub/).
