From Red to Green: Understanding the IUCN Red List

  • 235 Orleans Road North Chatham, MA 02650 (map)

Across the globe, species of all kinds are threatened with extinction due to a variety of reasons, and it is up to us as humans to understand their threats and work to protect them. “From Red to Green: Understanding the IUCN Red List” is a special exhibit presented by AWSC to enhance the public’s knowledge of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Endangered Species. Through the lens of species native to Cape Cod, we explore what the Red List is, how species are categorized, and what can be done to ensure the health and biodiversity of our planet for years to come.

In addition to the special exhibit, the AWSC Shark Center has exhibits to teach you and your family about the natural history of white sharks in this area, the ongoing white shark research, and their role in the marine ecosystem. Designed to create awareness and inspire conservation, this facility will have you walking out an ocean steward.

Go at your pace on this self-guided tour of our special and permanent exhibits. An educator will be available throughout the visit to answer questions and provide further information. Visitors will have 60 minutes to explore the space, and we will be limiting the number of visitors per hour to 40 individuals. In an effort to protect guests, staff, and exhibits, this is a touch-free experience.

Due to the most recent guidelines from the CDC, guests and staff will be required to wear masks regardless of vaccination status.

Reservations are strongly encouraged for this event!
