The Gills Club is Atlantic White Shark Conservancy's STEM-based education initiative dedicated to connecting girls with female scientists from around the world, sharing knowledge, and inspiring the next generation of shark and ocean advocates.
With the motto “Smart About Sharks,” Gills Club members are provided with tools to educate their peers about sharks through hands-on learning opportunities at events. In addition to being a vehicle that will foster positive attitudes towards sharks, we want this group to jump-start girls’ interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) subjects, boosting their chances of entering careers in science.
At this upcoming event, put your knowledge of fossils to the test as you explore the world of paleontology, learn about a scientist working with shark fossils, and even excavate your very own fossil! Become a researcher yourself as you uncover the ancient history behind sharks as we know them today, learn to identify species from fossils, and more.
This is not a dropoff program - adults are expected to stay with their youth for the duration of the event
Event is targeted for youth in grades 2-5
